AMEB- Grade 3 theory



Course Information and Outline 

This course has been designed for students who have completed theory grades one and two and are wishing to take their theory knowledge to a higher level. At the completion of the course, students will sit for the Australian Music Examination Board 3rd Grade Theory Exam. All students learning an instrument are encouraged to attend this course. Students learning in other studios are also welcome to attend.


Classes will be held at Berala Public School, Harrow Road, Berala


Classes will go for 1 hour on Monday’s from 7pm to 8pm. The commencing date for this course will be Monday 6th of February. The last class for this course will be held on Monday, 28th of August, 2017 with the exam to follow.


Students attending this course must have completed theory grades one and two (or equivalent). Students learning in other studios are also welcome to attend. Nathan Wu will be teaching this course.


Costs involved will be 26 lessons at $15 each- $390, $30- book/resources cost, $77 AMEB cost. This will total $497 for the whole course. The first instalment ($249) is payable opening commencing the course in February. The balance ($248) is due at the beginning of May.

Missed Classes

If a student misses a class, for whatever reason, no make-up classes are available, nor refunds given. Every effort will be made to assist the student in catching up missed work at the next lesson.

  • E, Bb, Eb and Ab Major scales
  • Primary triads
  • Triads in first inversion
  • G and C minor
  • Advanced time signatures
  • Duplets and dotted rests
  • Chords in 4 part vocal style
  • Plagal cadences
  • Creating rhythm patterns
  • Writing a melody
  • Piano style
  • Rondo form
  • Advanced Transposition
  • Terms and signs

There will be ample time given to homework, revision and mock exam questions, as well as past papers.
